ORCA Young Guns Cup 2008

part of the Chase the Sun MTB Series

Go Chase the Sun!

The race is on again at the 2008 “Chase the Sun” Mountain Bike Series at Lysterfield Lake Park in Hallam (venue of the 2006 Commonwealth Games MTB competition).

With their very own division, students team up to compete against other students and schools in the “ORCA Young Guns” category; a great opportunity for the young riders to get out there and show off their talent and enthusiasm.

In a series of 4 events the students strive not only to bring their team home first, but also for the overall title if competing in all 4 races.

In teams of 3, each cyclist rides one lap of the pre-designed course before sending the next team member off. While each single race honours the winning team with glory and great prizes, each race features a different course with the length and grade increasing throughout the series. So it’s worth sticking around for revenge!

While ORCA competes themselves in the corporate division (after last year’s 3rd placing overall in the competition), the company is also the official sponsor of the ‘Young Guns’ category.

What does that mean?

Besides swinging their supportive banner for the young racers, ORCA offers a pre race course inspection before each race, where the professionals share tricks with the younger riders and provide advice on how to tackle the course at the upcoming event.

On the big day, ORCA provides a mechanic to support the school’s pit area to fix minor technical issues, offer advice and moral support.
